Cabo Reinvented

By Ethan Lang on Sunday March 9, 2008Transcending its roots, Los Cabos, Mexico has been emerging into one of the worlds most contemporary resort destinations.
For years, Los Cabos, Mexico was a remote playground reserved primarily for anglers, yacht owners, surfers and aviators. But with increased accessibility, Cabo has grown to be much different today. With nearly 500 flights reaching Baja Sur every week, the Cabo buzz is being heard worldwide as Los Cabos is maturing into one of the planet’s most desired and most affluent leisure and luxury destinations.
Cabo San Lucas, one of two cities that make up Los Cabos, offers a natural paradise, where the desert collides with both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. Cabo’s friendly community, rugged beauty and natural wonders attract sportsmen, beach lovers, eco-tourists and jet setters from all over the world. The ambiance of San Lucas is breathtaking, with endless cactus-packed deserts and beautiful mountain ranges all bordered within miles of white sand beaches and clear azure waters.
San Lucas is notorious for its nightlife, which over the last several years has matured substantially. A handful of new San Lucas lounges and clubs have recently opened, reinventing Cabo’s image, to include more sophisticated entertainment and nightlife options.
With its rustic architecture, narrow streets and sidewalks and its authentic main square, the second of the Los Cabos cities, San José del Cabo retains the air of a provincial Mexican town. In the middle of San José’s preserved Mexican beauty, sits a collection of increasingly sophisticated, cafés, art galleries, interesting shops, intriguing inns and some of Baja’s most noteworthy restaurants.
Together, the cities that form Los Cabos offer an exciting selection of tours and activities, world-class golfing, fine dining, sophisticated shopping and spas, luxury accommodations, a lavish 300 plus slip marina –another on the way, a private jet landing strip and a wildly active nightlife scene as well.
In addition to the untamed party atmosphere of Cabo San Lucas and the more laid back colonial style of San José del Cabo, you can also enjoy the golf course and resort studded Tourist Corridor. “The Corridor” stretches 20 miles between the two cities and features exclusive hotels and gated residential communities. The resorts in the Corridor attract a wide clientele of rich and famous. Many of these properties, which are considered part of Latin America’s top resorts, have become havens to Hollywood stars, Fortune 500 C.E.O.s, political icons as well as self made million and even billionaires. In all, Los Cabos offers world-class luxury amenities, along with beaches, fishing, extreme activities, golf and all day and night partying.
