Baja Fresh
Published in March - May 2008 edition of Cabo Noche magazine
By Cabo Noche on Sunday March 2, 2008With each new season, comes an entirely new group of hotspots, transforming Baja Sur’s scenes of social, culinary, style, health, beauty and relaxation. Keeping up with the explosive growth is not easy, but CABO NOCHE and HAUTTER.COM are here to show you the best of all that is new, hip, happening and “fresh” in Los Cabos and Southern Baja.
THE GRAND MAYAN
HOTEL - SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO

Las Vegas flair meets Los Cabos beauty, at the all-new Grand Mayan Los Cabos Wyndham Resort. The Mayan is one of the most visually impressive resorts ever to open in San José del Cabo. The hotel is a gorgeous retreat surrounded by spectacular natural elements, organically connected pools (forming what is said to be Baja’s largest swimming pool), a long white sandy beach and pristine azure waters. This getaway makes for an ideal vacation far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Indulge in an array of water activities, go fishing or enjoy a round of golf. Enjoy world-class facilities and first-class services, like Brio, the resort’s spa and modern fitness center. The Grand Mayan also features a variety of specialty restaurants to satisfy the most discerning palate. Whether you are visiting or live in Los Cabos and have not seen it, we at Cabo Noche and Hautter.com recommend that you at least walk in and take a peek. The lobby (on reverse page) alone, at the Mayan Resort, will absolutely knock you off your feet.

LOOK OUT “CERVEZA”,
THERE’S NEW “BEER” IN TOWN
In the past, local restaurants and liquor stores offered a good, but rather limited variety of “cervezas”. But as Cabo continues to grow, so will its beverage of choice. “Beer” is here, Pub de la Chapa (The Irish Pub) recently opened in Cabo San Lucas and the Baja Brewery Company poured its first micro-brew in San José del Cabo this past December.
Q&A WITH
THE BAJA BREWING CO.
The “BBC”, as many are already calling it, is Cabo’s first microbrewery. The BBC has really done it “right” too. From its super-cool “beer-loving donkey” icon (left), to its classy and well put together interior, great tasting beer and food, and even live music. The owners and operators of the BBC are a distinctive group of individuals. In November, just before their grand opening, CABO NOCHE and HAUTTER.COM got in a little questions and answers:
CN: What are your nationalities?
Jordan Gardenhire: Mexican-American group. We have partners who are Mexican Nationals.
How long have you lived in Baja?
Jordan: Three years. Rob Kelly: One year. Dave Hatfield: Two. Gardenhire: Two years.
What is a word do you say “a lot”?
Jordan, Rob and Dave: Sweet.
Other than you own products, what is your favorite tasting brand of beer?
Jordan: I like most types of beer but have a special place for IPA's (Indian Pale Ale). Rob: Sawtooth Ale (from Left Hand Brewing Company in Colorado). Dave: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Charlie: Anchor Steam (from Anchor Brewing in San Francisco).
Which beer recipe is most unique?
Jordan: The wheat beer is made of approximately 50 percent wheat, instead of barley and will be light in color, sweet to the palette and best served with a slice of orange.
Lets talk food. Anything good on the menu?
Rob: I'm sure there will be something for everyone. The 3-Spice, Coffee-Rubbed Filet is exceptional. Dave: My favorite item is the Basil and Blue Cheese Burger.
What will a meal at BBC set a guy back?
Rob: We believe in getting what you pay for, if not a little more here at the BBC. Dave: Average price will be $20 for dinner and half that for lunch.

Q&A WITH
“PUB DE LA CHAPU”
The name means “The Irish Pub” in English. And this pub is true to the Irish game too. I think its safe to say that this is the only bar in Cabo San Lucas to offer nearly one hundred brands of beer. Awesome. CABO NOCHE and HAUTTER.COM sat down with owner-operator, Pedro Valente and asked:
CN: What brought you here to Cabo?
PV: To open another location here. We have one in Tijuana too.
Are you Irish?
No.
Half Irish?
No.
What about after a few beers?
Yep, then I am Irish… and Mexican too.
How many bottles of beer are on your wall?
Ninety, mas o menus (more or less).
We heard you have a “dumb waiter” who serves this food... Don't you think that is a little mean?
(laughing) No, it is not a person. The kitchen is upstairs, so we have an elevator (or dumbwaiter) that delivers the food from the kitchen to the dining room, which is on the first floor.
If a person mentions that they read this article in Cabo Noche magazine or at Hautter.com, will you give them any kind of special treatment?
Super-special. We love the reader’s of Cabo Noche and Hautter.com.

The store offers countless one of kind souvenirs, like t-shirts, kids wear, gear for girls and guys, stickers, pens, tequila shot glasses, bandanas, sweatshirts, Cabo Noche Magazine, plus much more. NO WORRY’S CLOTHING, BAR & RESTAURANT
CABO SAN LUCAS
The popular Cabo-launched clothing brand that was once located on Cabo’s marina boulevard, has moved and expanded. The all-new location now offers No Worry’s branded food and drinks to go along with its hats, shirts, shorts and other wearables. Kick it on the beautiful outdoor deck or check out their indoor bar and retail store. You can also take a walk up to their lighthouse tower, offering an incredible view of the marina. No Worry’s is located on the marina side of Hotel Tesoro. 624 143 8575. Click HERE to read the interview with the owners of No Worry’s.
ROCHER SALON,
CABO SAN LUCAS
Located in Hotel Tesoro, the salon’s owner is one of the best hair stylists and makeup artists in Los Cabos. All you Americans and locals alike, who are in need of a good haircut, don’t worry… ask for Janet and tell her that Cabo Noche and Hautter.com sent you. Rocher offers men and women’s haircuts, highlights, makeup, manicures, lowlights, shampoo, color and will even pour you a glass of bottled water, wine or a cocktail while you’re in the chair. FRUTOPICA
HEATHY EATERY, CABO SAN LUCAS
If you’re into super-tasty sandwiches, salads and smoothies, then Frutopica is for you. They promote themselves as a “heath food” restaurant, which is great, but when I tell people about it I simply say, “It’s super-good, inexpensive, fresh and fast food at Puerto Paraiso Plaza”. I personally recommend the Turkey Bacon Panini (made with turkey bacon, not turkey and bacon) or the Ensalada de Arrachera (steak salad). Eat there (in the food court of Puerto Paraiso), delivery is available to select locations, or place an order for pick up. Call today: 624 144 4747 and be sure to tell them that Cabo Noche and Hautter.com sent you.
